Did you know that there is a book in the Old Testament that is sometimes called the Fifth Gospel? Why? Because there are so many references in it to the coming Messiah and to the suffering He would endure for you and for me. This “Fifth Gospel” is the book written by the prophet Isaiah.
We will not study the entire book, but we will look at how to understand the poetic style of writing, how to see the book in relation to the complexity of the time period, how the book pictures the coming Messiah, and how there is a prophetic message for us in the book (as it was in the time of Isaiah), both a warning and an encouragement. And, of course, how the book of Isaiah can help us learn to wait upon God for strength. And give us His peace. (Isaiah 26:3)
